ABOUT ACOUSTIC TREATMENT

Acoustic treatment is the process of controlling sound reflections within a room. Acoustic treatment lessens the effect of undesirable Echo and Noise in order to improve the clarity and quality of the sound. Acoustic treatment can be achieved by using various Acoustic panels (boards), insulation materials and Acoustic Ceiling Tiles. There are mainly three elements that have to be considered while carrying out Acoustic Treatment: Absorption, Diffusion and Reflection.

HOW DOES SOUND WORK

Sound in general, moves as a longitudinal wave – a wave that compresses air and expands gradually as it moves. When sound touches a material, it vibrates the particles within; regardless of the material being Solid, Liquid or gas. Thus, the most efficient process of stopping sound from traveling is to add a Vacuum in its path. As Compression and Vibration are important elements in the working of Sound, a vacuum helps in eliminating these elements. This is the reason why sound cannot be heard in Space – as Space is a vacuum.

Whereas, the frequency of a Sound wave is the level of sound that can be heard to a listener. It is divided in to three frequencies – Low, Medium and High. For e.g. Low frequencies consist of sounds like Bass, Thunder or a Man’s Deep voice and High frequencies consist of sounds such as Whistle, Squeal or Child’s voice.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ACOUSTIC TREATMENT AND SOUND PROOFING

A common mistake is made while treating a Theater, Home Theater or Recording Studio. Generally, people get confused between Acoustic Treatment and Sound Proofing. Acoustic Treatment is the process of removing any form of Noise (echo) or reverberation present in the room. Acoustic treatment helps in making the sound produced from a speaker more crisp and clear. Acoustic Panels and Insulation materials such as Wood Wool Board, PET Polyester Acoustic Board, Fiber Glass wool Insulation, Mineral Rockwool Insulation and Polyester Wadding (Polywool) are good products for Acoustic Treatment,

Whereas, Sound proofing is the process of preventing sound from traveling through walls. With soundproofing, the internal sound is retained inside and the external sound does not enter the room. However, after carrying out Soundproofing, the echo and noise drastically increases within the room and is always recommended to carry out Acoustic Treatment. A combination of Reflective and Absorption material such as Magnesium Oxide Board (MgO Board), Cement Fiber board and Mineral Rockwool Insulation are good products for Sound Proofing.

TACET™ PET Polyester Acoustic Panel / Board

PET Polyester Acoustic Panels is a Pre – finished coloured acoustically absorbent panel made from 100% PET plastic with a felt-like finish. These Polyester Acoustic Panels are Porous in nature which makes it ideally suitable for Acoustic Treatment, sound absorption, Heat and thermal insulation. These PET Acoustic Panels are available in 10 different colors and can be applied for both Wall Paneling and False Ceiling. Thus, helping in achieving an N.R.C of up to 0.7 to 0.95 depending on the amount of area covered.

PET Polyester Acoustic Panel comprises of flame retardant fibers and is an Eco-friendly product. It produces no harmful substances when compared to Fiber glass wool insulation or Mineral Rock wool insulation.

JITEX™ Fiber Glasswool Insulation Roll

Fiber Glass wool is a Yellow color insulating material made by spinning glass into a fibrous material that can be packed into mats and blankets. The fibers in glass wool traps air in the form of tiny pockets of air. Thus making it an excellent Acoustic, Thermal and Fire insulation material. Its lightweight and high tensile strength makes it one of the most used insulation products in the industry.

Fiber Glasswool insulation are available in the form of rolls and can be installed as an infill in both Partitions and False Ceiling. They come in various thicknesses and Densities – making it suitable for all applications in Theaters, Home Theaters, Auditoriums, Conference rooms, Office spaces etc.

Mineral Rockwool Insulation Slabs

Mineral Rock Insulation is a Dark Green insulating material that is made from actual rocks. It is also known as Stone wool insulation or Slag wool insulation. Natural Rock is heated in a furnace until it melts into a liquid. The Liquid is them exposed to high air current pressure and spun at high speeds to form long fiber strands. These strands are further compressed in to thick mats and then cut into 2ft x 3ft slabs.

Rock wool insulation has excellent Acoustic, Thermal and Heat insulation properties. Also, due to its High density when compared to other insulation materials, Mineral rock wool insulation can be used for Soundproofing up to 85 dB Levels. They have a wide range of applications and can be used in partition and ceiling for Theaters, Home Theaters, Office Spaces, Auditoriums etc.

JITEX™ Polyester Wadding / Polywool Roll

Polyester Wadding or also know as Polywool Insulation is a White color insulation material made from polyester fibers. It is made from recycled plastic and available in the form of rolls. Unlike Fiber glass wool insulation, Polyester wadding (Polywool) is completely safe to handle during installation and is a Non-carcinogenic material. Its smooth surface, gauge control, superior physical strength, Chemical Properties, low water absorption and vapor transmission makes Polyester wadding (polywool) the right, versatile and dependable solution for many insulation applications.

In the Construction and Building Material Industry, Polyester wadding is widely used as an infill for Partitions and false ceiling as they are available in various sizes, Thickness and Densities.

HIGH N.R.C

All Acoustic Panels and Boards from JITEX and TACET provide a very high Noise Reduction Co-efficient. 18mm Wood wool board provides an NRC up to 0.90. We also have products with NRC that range from 0.50 to 0.95.

FIRE RESISTANCE

With the base material being cement, Wood wool board have a high resistance towards fire and comply to all Standards and norms. Likewise, PET Polyester Acoustic Panel have a high resistance towards Fire.

ECO AND HEALTH FRIENDLY

These Acoustic Boards are Eco-friendly in nature and can be easily recycled. Also, they are Non-carcinogenic in nature and do not contain any harmful substances like Asbestos.

DURABILITY

TERMITE AND FUNGI PROOF

SURFACE FINISH

Wood Wool boards can be finished with either Fabric or Spray paint where PET Polyester Acoustic Boards have a Pre-finished surface. These Acoustic Panels can be cut into any shape possible whether it being circle, Triangle or Hexagon.

What is Acoustic Treatment?

Acoustic treatment is the process of controlling sound reflections inside a room. Acoustic treatment helps in reducing undesirable Echo, Noise and reverberation. This helps in improving the clarity and quality of the sound. Good Acoustic treatment can be achieved by using using JITEX Wood wool board, Tacet Polyester PET Acoustic Panel combined with Insulation materials such as Fiber Glass wool Insulation, Mineral Rockwool Insulation or Polyester wadding.

What is Sound Proofing?

Soundproofing is the process of preventing the sound from traveling between the walls of two rooms. The process involves creating a barrier in order to reflect the sound from passing through the walls. Good Soundproofing can be achieved using Magnesium oxide board (MgO Sound proof Board) with Mineral Rock wool insulation.

Acoustic Treatment or Sound Proofing - Which to Choose?

Acoustic treatment helps in removing the echo in the room and Sound proofing helps in preventing the sound from traveling outside the room. There is no Single material that can take care of both Sound Proofing and Acoustic Treatment. A combination of materials are used to treat both the elements separately. Also, Soundproofing has to be carried out first followed by Acoustic Treatment and not vice versa. In general, 8 out of 10 Home Theaters require only Acoustic Treatment.

Sound proofing is not compulsory for every Home Theater. Sound proofing would be required only in certain cases where the Home Theater is built in an Apartment and one of the walls is adjoined to a neighboring Apartment. Thus, to avoid any disturbances caused to the neighbors, the Home Theater is Soundproofed. However, after soundproofing, Acoustic Treatment is compulsory as the echo and noise increases drastically.

Which is the best Acoustic Treatment product for Home Theaters?

Traditional Acoustic treatment process for Home theaters involve Channel, Insulation materiel such as Fiber glass, Mineral Rock wool or Poly wool with Wood wool Board. The wood wool board can be further finished with fabric or Spray Paint. However, this process is a little expensive when compared to PET Polyester Acoustic Panel but results in excellent Acoustic Treatment.

In case of an economical option is required, PET polyester Acoustic Panel can be directly installed on to the wall. However, Acoustic Treatment would be decreased by 10 to 15 % when compared to the first option.
