Sound proofing and Acoustic Treatment for a Factory’s Conference Room in Hosur, Tamil Nadu

Soundproofing for the conference room involved two aspects – treatment of Walls and False Ceiling. As we had to soundproof the room up to 85 dB;s, the Soundproofing of walls involved building a 116mm thick Dry wall Partition consisting of 2 layers of 50mm thick JITEX G.I partition Channel (Floor and Stud) with an insulation infill of 50mm thick Mineral Rock wool slab of 96 kg density per m3. Two layers of 8mm thick Soundproof Magnesium Oxide Boards (MgO board) were installed on both sides of the channel and finished with Jointing tape and jointing Compound. The same process was carried out to the False Ceiling as well. A M.S framework was installed up to a height of 11ft for additional support and the False ceiling G.I channel was suspended from it. An infill of Mineral rock wool insulation was installed and finished with 8mm thick Soundproof Magnesium Oxide board on both sides of the channel. Thus creating a Soundproof enclosure that helped in keeping out the sound of machine from entering the Conference room.

After the completion of Soundproofing, the second step involved the process of Acoustic Treatment. A simple and feasible approach was considered during the Acoustic Treatment process. False ceiling was divided into two segments. Gypsum board false ceiling was carried out on all four corners with a Cove Light provision and the center portion consisted of a T – Grid False ceiling system comprising of 24mm T-Grid Support system of make JITEX. Further, an infill of 50mm thick Polywool Insulation (1000 GSM) and 12mm Thick JITEX Mineral fiber Acoustic ceiling was layed on to the framework. This helped us in achieving an N.R.C of 0.60.
