Mineral Rockwool insulation is an excellent insulating material that is widely used in False ceiling and Partitions. Also known as Stone wool, Slag wool or Mineral Wool, this insulation material has excellent heat, thermal and noise resistance properties. Mineral Rock wool insulation is very similar to fiber glass wool Insulation or Polyester Wadding (Polywool). However, instead of it being composed of fluffy glass fibers, Rock wool Insulation is made from a substance called Mineral rock i.e Natural Rock.
Mineral Rockwool insulations are available in the form of slabs / mats.

Soundproofing
Rock wool insulation has excellent Soundproofing properties and is widely used in Partitions and Ceiling. Higher the density of Rockwool, higher the soundproofing capacity.
Heat Insulation
Rock wool insulation helps in lowering the temeprature of the room to quiet an extent. A layer of Rockwool insulation helps in lowering the temperture by 6 – 7° C.
Fire Resistant
Rock wool insulation is one of the best Fire resistant materials in the market. A single layer of 50mm Thick Rockwool insulation provides Fire resistance upto 120 minutes.
Durability
Rock wool insulation is available in the form of slabs and can be easily transported and installed in any given location. They do not sag over a period of time.
Acoustics
Rock wool insulation has a very high Noise reduction coefficient. 50mm Thick Rockwool gives an NRC of 0.90. Thus, helping in reducing the echo present in the room.
Why Is Rock Wool Better Than Glass Wool

Raw Material
When compared to Fiber Glass wool, Rockwool is made from molten rock and less irritating and dusty. As they are available in the form of slabs, Rockwool insulation is highly durable and can be easily trasnported and installed.
R – Value
With respect to the thickness, Rockwool Insulation provides a higher R-value when compared to Fiber Glass wool. Also, for a Lower R – Value, a lesser thickness of Rock wool can also be used.
Density
Unlike Glass wool, Rockwool Insulation is available in a variety of densities i.e. 48 kg, 64 kg, 96kg and 120 Kg / m3. This helps in treating a variety of problems such as heat, thermal and sound insulation.
Fire Resistance
The density of Rockwool helps in improving the Fire resistance properties of a Building. Higher the density, higher the Fire rating. Multiple layers of rockwool of higher densities help in achieving a Fire rating of 240 Minutes.
Moisture Resistant
When compared to Fiber glass wool, Rockwool Insulation repels water and does not absorb moisture very easily. Thus, avoiding degradation and keeping the space much more dryer.
